On May 19, CHN Energy officially deployed its first open-top rail wagon capable of handling both bulk cargo and containerized freight.
The achievement is part of the Group’s Universal Gondola Wagon Container Transport Technology Upgrade Initiative, signifying a strategic leap toward versatile rail freight solutions.
By retrofitting existing C70E and C64K wagons, the redesigned model tackles three longstanding challenges in container transport: structural reinforcement to prevent floor deformation and weld fractures, installation of container-guiding mechanisms to minimize cargo shifts, and streamlined loading processes that boost single-container efficiency by 35%.
With a retrofit cost of approximately 10,000 yuan per wagon, the technology slashes annual reinforcement expenses by over 50% compared to traditional methods. Its adoption is projected to optimize fleet utilization and strengthen the Group’s logistics network for multimodal transport operations.
