On May 13, CHN Energy’s GD Power Langfang Thermal Power Plant successfully completed the installation of the main beam for the world’s first integrated flue gas molten salt heat storage boiler.
The project is a key component of the 350 MW High-efficiency Flexible Coal-fired Power Generation Unit Technology R&D and Engineering Demonstration Program, designated as a major national technological equipment initiative under China’s third batch of energy sector pioneering projects.
Featuring the world’s inaugural flue gas molten salt heat storage system, the innovation elevates energy storage efficiency from 35% to 63%. Upon commissioning, the unit will achieve a minimum stable operating load of 15%, a load change rate of 6% per minute and a hot-start time under two hours. The plant’s Phase II expansion plans include two 350 MW supercritical cogeneration units, projected to supply heating for 21 million square meters and deliver industrial steam at 100 tons per hour.
To ensure safe installation of the 96-meter-high main beam, the project team formulated meticulous protocols, overcame complex environmental challenges and executed precision hoisting operations.
