On May 31, Longyuan Power’s Qinghai Tanyue Wind Farm officially commenced grid-connected power generation. Located in Lenghu Town, Mangya City, Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province, the project sits at an average altitude of 2,850 meters. With a total installed capacity of 500 MW, it operates 65 wind turbines each rated at 7.7 MW, making it China’s largest single-unit-capacity wind power project in a high-altitude region.

Construction faced extreme challenges including severe cold, oxygen deprivation and intense ultraviolet radiation. Working in conditions with oxygen levels just 60% of plain areas, the team completed all turbine foundation pouring within two months and finished hoisting all units in 160 days. The entire project, from the first foundation pour to grid connection, took 249 days.

Once fully operational, the wind farm is expected to generate approximately 1.4 billion kWh of electricity annually. This output will save 420,000 tons of standard coal and cut carbon dioxide emissions by 1.09 million tons each year. As a key project in Qinghai Province, its completion significantly advances the province’s goals for large-scale high-altitude wind power development during the 14th Five-year Plan period.
