On July 15, Ningxia Tengger Company completed the installation of the first wind turbine for its 1,000 MW Guyuan wind power base project, a supporting facility for the Ningxia-Hunan UHVDC transmission project.
Located in Guyuan City, Ningxia, the project boasts a planned capacity of 1,000 MW and includes supporting energy storage facilities (100 MW/200 MWh). Upon completion, 152 wind turbines will generate approximately 2 billion kWh of electricity annually. This clean energy will be transmitted to Hunan Province via the Ningxia-power-to-Hunan project.
The Ningxia-power-to-Hunan initiative is China’s first ultra-high-voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission channel primarily designed to deliver new energy from barren-land areas. It supports 13,000 MW of associated new energy projects. Ningxia Tengger energy base is the first such project in China to receive joint approval from the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration.
